The PACU RN is an integral team member in the safe, efficient care of the post-operative client. The RN coordinates an individual post op plan of care after careful physical, emotional, mental and psychological assessment of the patient and considering the surgical procedure performed. Collaborates for optimum patient care outcomes with all members of the patient care team (pre op, intra op & post op phases). The RN integrates standards into daily practice and serves as a role model and mentor. Utilizes all components of the nursing process in providing care that reflects an understanding of age, patients’ rights &and population-specific needs & differences.
12 hour flex, Mon-Friday, weekends, holidays and on-call to meet the needs of the department
Applicant must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York. BS in nursing is preferred. BLS, ACLS, PALS and a minimum of (1) year experience in PACU, Critical Care or M/S required. Must possess: ability to stand/walk 70-90% of the work day; ability to prioritize, anticipate and alter activities throughout the day; physical ability to maneuver equipment, stretchers, and carts around the Peri-Operative area (including day surgery) without assistance; possess mature interpersonal skills and demonstrate recognition of cultural diversity; ability to cope with frequent risk of exposure to blood/body fluids during normal duties ability to cope with possible exposure to communicable diseases; ability to interact responsibly and calmly with physicians, patients and patient families; ability to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team; demonstrates flexibility in working hours and work schedule to meet the patient care needs of the unit; assumes responsibility and accountability for his/her own practice; sincere interest in PACU nursing with commitment to improve and expand his/her knowledge; ability to attend staff meetings according to hospital policy; maintains knowledge and proficiency in the clinical area and age group serve.
