    Responsibilities

     

    OLP’s are physician assistants (PA) and nurse practitioners (NP) dedicated to providing quality, professional, cost-effective health care to all patients at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center.

     

    At Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, LIPs provide services in collaboration with a licensed physician fulfilling a broad range of medical services that would otherwise be provided by the physician. A LIP shall be permitted to provide any service within his/her scope of training/skills and the scope of practice of the physician outlined in the collaborative agreement between the NP and the collaborating physician, or as delegated by the supervising physician to the PA that has been approved by the Credentials Committee. LIPs may provide care for all patients throughout the hospital as permitted by their certification and licensure. LIPs provide patient-centered care as members of interdisciplinary teams emphasizing evidence-based practice and accepted standards of care. LIPs document according to the practices included in the Clinical Documentation Initiative (CDI). A LIP on the Trauma Team must have privileges to first assist in surgery, experience in emergency medicine, and current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) documentation, or acquire it within six months. A LIP on the Trauma Team may be required to be on-call.

    Physician Assistant—

        Graduate of physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) and the Committee on Allied Health Education (CAHEA).
